Ketamine addiction
Ketamine is a powerful dissociative anaesthetic that is primarily used in medical settings for anaesthesia induction and pain management, acting on the central nervous system by blocking NMDA receptors, leading to a dissociative state characterised by profound alterations in perception, sensation, and consciousness.
On top of its medical use however, ketamine is also used illicitly for recreational purposes due to its hallucinogenic effects. Illicit ketamine use poses various risks, including cognitive impairment, potential long-term health consequences, and potential ketamine addiction.
