Xanax Addiction
Xanax, also known by its generic name alprazolam, is a medication you might take to manage anxiety disorders, panic attacks, or certain types of depression. As a benzodiazepine, Xanax works by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that helps regulate brain activity. This results in a calming effect on your central nervous system, reducing feelings of anxiety and promoting relaxation.
However, despite its effectiveness in managing anxiety, prolonged use or misuse of Xanax can lead to dependency, and ultimately, a Xanax addiction.
